Meet MissRose

Isn’t she adorable? She is the softest, most cuddly, sweetest little pink plush I’d ever seen. She has agreed to be my new friend and coach for my journey for a healthier lifestyle and nutritional game plan. She has promised never to make fun of how many cookies I eat. She doesn’t care what size of clothes I wear or that I huff and puff when I walk up the stairs. When I squeeze her too tight or cry real tears on her, she doesn’t mind. Her assignment is to remind me to take care of myself in a gentle, positive, and happy way.

A bit of background, really a reminder to myself why and how I need MissRose. The past year has been a filled with so many changes and challenges health wise. Thanks to different shots in my knee and back I am still walking. Another huge help is first taking Prednisone for 6 months, then changing to Hydrocortisone that I have taken for 9 months. It is a well-known fact that these will make one gain weight and retain fluid.

OK, I knew that, but had no idea how much weight I’d gain. As I told the nurse today, the weight gain was harder on me mentally than any disease or personal challenge I’d had in my whole life. (I’ve had my share, as has everyone)

Truth time, I have never ever eaten healthy. Nor did I exercised other that walking and working hard. Like many women, I’d go on the current fad diets awhile, lose weight, gain it back etc. No problem, I looked good! For months I have been trying to figure out what to do and how to stick with it.

Today as we were leaving Kohl’s I spotted MissRose sitting there patiently waiting for me to pick her up and give her a big hug. MissRose was part of a display that Kohl’s has near the cash registers of plush animals and children’s book. These sell for only $5 and the money goes for different children projects Kohl’s supports. Of course, the minute I felt the very soft MissRose, I knew she was coming home with me.

While playing with my new friend and deciding what to name her, a thought hit me. This little adorable plush will remind me to stay on track and even more important have a better attitude. I think she’ll sit at the kitchen table to help me with portion control. She will sit on my lap while online too, she knows I need to get up and walk around ever few minutes.

What’s that MissRose? It’s time for bed already. How did she know I like to stay up too late and not get my beauty sleep?

  1. I loved this! I came expecting to hear about some nice lady, and ended up meeting a plush pig! (And even though I saw your Twitter yesterday about purchasing this at the counter at Kohls, I hadn't put the two things together.) Glad to see you're back to blogging, this made my morning.

  2. This is great - I love it! What a good idea! Maybe I should go out and get one!

I've blogged about some of the same issues as you. I wrote a couple of posts about my prednisone battle - I gained forty pounds in less than two months when I first started taking it! It really does change how you see yourself. And my most recent post was about learning to be kind to myself. I love your idea!

  3. Remicade: Please send me your url for your blog. Thanks!

RAwarrior and RAGuy: thanks for posting comments. I never know if anyone reads this or not.

  4. Sure - it's

I hope you're enjoying MissRose! I was cheered up just reading about her.
